Skógarhestur

Skógarhestur

Also known as "Forest Horse" and "Icelandic Cross"

The Skógarhestur is an icelandic crossbreed. Like the icelandic horse, they are known for having more than 3 gaits. However, they are taller than the icelandic horse. They are 72.5% Icelandic Horse, 22.5% Oakland Pony and 5% Friesian. They are usually chestnut or black, although they can also be bay and have cream and dun genes. They can never be grey or have appaloosa markings. They have very thick manes and during the winter, their coats grow very thick so they can survive out in the cold for days.

Skógarhestur are bred to be able to tölt for many hours and they have great strength and stamina. They are perfect for carrying tall and heavy riders due to their strength and thanks to their stamina, they are pretty good endurance horses. There's one big flaw in the Skógarhestur, they are not able to jump that high. Few individuals can jump higher than others with training, although they are generally known as bad show jumpers. They are okay in dressage but if you want a horse to compete or train with on high levels, a Skógarhestur is not for you.

It is illegal to ride one with a bit as their mouths are more sensitive than on other horses.
They always have icelandic names.

This is not a real horse breed, it's made up and you are NOT allowed to use it outside the Oak Wood Stables community.
